Jamie Moore worked at night
He almost never seen the light
The town folk never knew what he was all about
But me, I'd sit outside
Thinking hard about the turning tide
And I'd hear him nail the chairs down and shout:
"Oh Lord,
This loneliness will bury me for sure
Like a fallen man alone in the war!"
That was all I heard from Jamie Moore.
The committee in his mind
Never let him talk half the time
They'd all debate and then tell him what to do
You see, he had no other choice
Because he couldn't even hear his own voice
So he'd scream about how he hated being in his shoes:
"Oh Lord,
This loneliness will bury me for sure
Like a fallen man alone in the war!"
That was all I heard from Jamie Moore.
He was good with windmill blades
But even better at digging graves
He only worked long after the sun went down
I'd see him on Saint John's Lane
Walkin' with a shovel and a cane
Crying out these words with a mighty sound:
"Oh Lord,
This loneliness will bury me for sure
Like a fallen man alone in the war!"
That was all I heard from Jamie Moore.
